Partnership strengthens the connection between science, clinical practice, and the third sector in national scientific production
The Alliance Against Leprosy Institute (AAL) and the renowned journal Hansenologia Internationalis: Leprosy and Other Infectious Diseases have announced a call for submissions of scientific manuscripts. The notice, entitled “Leprosy Case Reports: Shared Practice – 2026 Edition,” invites healthcare professionals, researchers, and students to submit original clinical case reports on leprosy.
The initiative aims to promote scientific knowledge on the disease through clinical practice, encourage the development of new authors, and expand the dissemination of relevant experiences that contribute to addressing leprosy in Brazil and other endemic countries.
A partnership grounded in scientific excellence
This initiative is the result of a collaboration between the AAL— a nonprofit organization recognized for its work in science, education, and assistance — and Hansenologia Internationalis, an open-access scientific journal published by the Lauro de Souza Lima Institute, part of the São Paulo State Department of Health. Founded in 1976, it remains the only Brazilian scientific journal dedicated exclusively to leprosy.
According to Dr. Laila de Laguiche, President and Founder of AAL:
“This partnership, now renewed for the second year, represents a milestone in the integration of science and research. The idea is to provide space for professionals and institutions to share real experiences of care, learning, and overcoming challenges, thereby strengthening clinical training and scientific production in the field of leprosy.”
Guidelines and deadlines
Manuscripts may be submitted by professionals, researchers, and students from medical and multidisciplinary fields — including nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, psychology, pharmacy, biomedical sciences, nutrition, and social work.
Submissions must be completed between December 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026, through the journal’s online system at:
https://periodicos.saude.sp.gov.br/hansenologia/user/register
Approved works will be published in Volume 51 of Hansenologia Internationalis, under a continuous scientific publication model.
Recognition and awards
The top three case reports will receive special awards:
🥇 1st place: R$ 1,000.00 + trophy
🥈 2nd place: R$ 500.00 + commemorative plaque
🥉 3rd place: commemorative plaque
Evaluation will be conducted by a Special Editorial Committee composed of members of the AAL Editorial Board and the Editorial Board of Hansenologia Internationalis, ensuring scientific rigor and transparency throughout the process.
Commitment to science and human dignity
Through this initiative, the AAL reaffirms its mission to unite science, education, and assistance in the fight against leprosy, strengthening scientific production and fostering exchange among healthcare professionals across the country.
