Alliance Against Leprosy
Alliance Against Leprosy Institute
Founded in 2018, the Alliance Against Leprosy Institute is a non-profit organization based in Brazil and operating internationally. Bringing together science, education, and philanthropy, it works to combat Hansen’s Disease on three strategic fronts: training health professionals, disseminating information and assisting people with physical disabilities caused by the disease.
TECHansen is an initiative of the Alliance Against Leprosy to improve the quality of life of people with physical disabilities caused by Hansen’s Disease. Launched in August 2021, TECHansen offers assistive technology materials to patients throughout Brazil. In 2022, it was recognized by the Brazilian Ministry of Health and the Pan American Health Organization.
It’s a virtual platform that connects primary care doctors to Hansen’s Disease specialists. The tool enables frontline doctors to clarify doubts and receive support—either in writing or through video calls—from highly experienced professionals in the field, thereby encouraging early diagnosis and contributing to more informed decisions regarding the treatment of patients with Hansen’s Disease.
