Introduction:
The Alliance Against Leprosy (AAL) Institute is a non-profit association founded in 2018 that unites science, education and philanthropy in the fight against leprosy, with operations both in Brazil and abroad. The scientific journal Hansenologia Internationalis: leprosy and other infectious diseases is an official, multidisciplinary, open-access scientific journal published by the Lauro de Souza Lima Institute, part of the Health Services Coordination of the São Paulo State Health Department, and the only Brazilian scientific journal to publish articles on leprosy since 1976.
The teams at the Alliance Against Leprosy Institute and Hansenologia Internationalis: Leprosy and Other Infectious Diseases have joined forces to invite the scientific community to submit original articles in the form of “Case Reports” on Leprosy for the special issue “Case Reports on Leprosy – a shared practice”. The articles submitted must be unpublished and follow the rules of the journal Hansenologia Internationalis¹.
Objectives:
– Promote science through clinical work – To publicize scientifically described cases of leprosy;
– Improve health professionals’ knowledge of scientific production;
– Encourage the scientific dissemination of clinical cases of leprosy with the support of the third sector.
Submission:
The editorial process will follow the norms, quality standards and scientific rigor of the Journal Hansenologia Internationalis for the publication of case reports, according to the instructions below:
From the author:
– Articles may be submitted by academics (undergraduate and postgraduate) from the medical and multidisciplinary fields (nursing, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, psychology, pharmacy, biological sciences, biomedicine, nutrition, social work and similar), residents and scientists/researchers who are interested in/active in the field of leprosy;
– Students in higher education in the medical and multidisciplinary fields must be supervised by masters or doctors in the same field, following the procedures of the Brazil Platform.
– Up to 06 (six) authors will be accepted for each article;
– The same author may submit up to 03 clinical cases to this special issue as the main author, but there will be no limit to participating as a co-author;
– All authors must have ORCID – Open Researcher and Collaborator ID (orcid.org);
All authors and co-authors should read the submission guidelines carefully and provide the complementary documentation.

Case Report
General guidelines: Case reports should contain a maximum of 6 authors, a title of up to 150 characters (in Portuguese or English), an abstract of up to 200 words (in Portuguese or English), 3 to 5 keywords (in Portuguese or English), a text of up to 2000 words, as well as a maximum of 30 references and up to 6 illustrations.
Structure of the text: Introduction: brief description of the problem, information about the pathology being treated. Case Presentation: briefly describe the most relevant data from the case, including concise information about the patient, their complaints and test results relevant to the discussion. Discussion and Conclusion: describe the relevance of the case, discussing the most important points. Comments or Final Considerations: justification for the presentation containing the diagnostic hypothesis and therapeutic approach.
Submission languages: Portuguese or English.
Citations and References: Citations should be in the numerical system and references in Vancouver format, according to the examples given in the Guidelines for authors.
Complementary documentation: Letter to the editor2 : record how the article contributes to the Special Issue “Case Reports on Leprosy – a shared practice”; Cover Sheet3 : filled out in full with information about the authorship and development of the article; Declaration of Authorship and Responsibility4 : which must be completed and signed by all authors; Ethical aspects5 : The study registration number and the Free and Informed Consent Form (FICF) or Free and Informed Assent Form (FACF) must be included.

5 Obtain guidance from the Research Ethics Council (CEP) where the work was evaluated.
Articles must be submitted through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) system. To do so, the author must access the journal’s website and register at the following link: https://periodicos.saude.sp.gov.br/hansenologia/user/register, according to the system’s instructions.
When submitting, select the “Case report” option on the Section tab.
The submission period:
Articles must be submitted between October 1st and December 30th, 2023.
Evaluation:
The original articles received will be analyzed by the journal’s Executive Editorial Committee, which will carry out a formal desk review to assess whether the article complies with the journal’s rules, in terms of thematic scope and verification of similarity with anti-plagiarism tools. The article will then be forwarded to the referees of the HI Journal for peer review, using the double-blind peer review system, considering the aspects of novelty, scientific relevance, technical-scientific writing and compliance with the rules for publication. All articles will be scored from 1 to 10 for classification, award and publication purposes.
All articles received will have the opportunity to make corrections requested by the evaluators, if necessary, within the established deadlines.
The decision to publish the article will be based exclusively on criteria of scientific excellence.
The AAL Editorial Board will have no access to or influence over the stages of the evaluation process.
Authors can follow the progress of evaluation activities by accessing the Journal’s platform, in the Submission tab, by clicking on “View pending submissions”.
From publication:
For this special issue, “Case Reports on Leprosy – a shared practice”, the 10 (ten) best articles will be selected and will be published after the issue has been finalized, scheduled for the beginning of the second half of 2024. The other approved articles will also be published, but in the normal flow of the journal.
Awards:
The three best articles will be selected, according to ranking:
– 1st Place: BRL 1,000.00 + trophy
– 2nd Place: BRL 500.00 + honorary plaque
– 3rd Place: plaque
